Netravathi River flows through the famous pilgrimage place Dharmasthala and is considered one of the sacred rivers of India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In another tale, <\/span><b>it is believed that Lord Almighty, in his incarnation as Varaha protected the land immersed in floods by raising it. Relieved, the ground in the state of bliss shed happy tears and the same is considered as Netravathi\u2019s birth.<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Note: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Bandaje Falls, on Bandaje and Ballalarayana Durga trek, is formed by a tributary of the Netravathi River.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"BASE_CAMPSTAY\"><\/span><b>BASE CAMP\/STAY<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can camp either in Samse, Belthangady or stay near the base of the Netravathi. As you take a jeep ride from Samse to Netravathi Basepoint, you will find some homestays, resorts, and plantations of Coffee, Areca and Chilly. No buses run to the base; hence, hire a tempo, get a lift or arrange your vehicle to reach the base. It will take 20 minutes to reach the base.<\/span><\/span> You can stay in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.in\/Hotel_Review-g297629-d10278742-Reviews-Bella_Home_Stay-Chikmagalur_Chikkamagaluru_District_Karnataka.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bella Homestay<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Belthangady \u2013<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> You can stay in Belthangady. The base of the trek is at a distance of 30 km from Belthangady.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Dharmasthala \u2013<\/b> Dharmasthala is some 25 km from the trek base. It is a famous pilgrimage site for Hindus. Hence, you will find many resorts and homestays here. But owing to its popularity, the Forest Department now charge<\/span><b> INR 500 per person<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This is done exactly at the starting point of the trek.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One local guide is <\/span><b>mandatory for every 12 people. One guide charges INR 1000 per trek<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Giving this reasonable amount to local guides is acceptable as they work hard. During weekdays, these local guides work at plantations like Areca, Avocado, Chilly, and Coffee.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Drones and Cameras are charged extra. <\/span><b>Every drone goes for INR 1000, and the camera is INR 300.<\/b><\/p>\n<h1><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"TRAIL_SYNOPSIS\"><\/span><b>TRAIL SYNOPSIS<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><b>There are three segments on the trail:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><b>Segment 1 \u2013 Base to crossing the two-tiered waterfalls and dense forest section<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><b>Segment 2: Netravathi River to Grasslands<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><b>Segment 3: Crossing False Peaks and Steep sections to reach the peak.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On an approximately 12 km trail, you will come across two water streams, waterfalls, dense forest sections, and open grasslands, and will also witness armpits of the Western Ghats existing in dankness on lustrous grasslands&#8217; surface.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will be able to comfortably finish this trek in 4.5 hours. The route that you take to climb is the same route for descent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><b><i>Tip \u2013<\/i><\/b> <b><i>Monsoon season comes with multiple leeches waiting to suck your blood. These are slimy creatures that stick to you, get comfortable and then suck blood. Keep an eye on these; don\u2019t panic if you see one. Don\u2019t use methods like pulling, scratching, or sprinkling salt. Applying a sanitiser might also not work during the monsoon since the sanitiser will wash off your skin.
