Starts From
One of the most stunning and essential treks in India's north is the Parashar Lake Trek. You should go on the relatively simple but rewarding trek to Parashar Lake before the tourist crowds arrive. The floating island in the lake is well-known. But you would say that's a fairly common occurrence. But hold on—the surprise isn't quite over yet. You need to be cautious because the tiny floating island happens to float around the edge of the lake. When visiting Parashar Lake, you should also inquire about the lake's depth. You might be surprised to learn that despite numerous attempts, the precise depth of this lake is still unknown. Some claim that the humorous topology and climate of Parashar Lake are to blame for this, while others hold that mythology has something to do with it.
We know you enjoy stories, so we have one for you. According to myths, the lake was created by the elbow of the ram that belonged to Bheem as he and his brothers, as well as Lord Kamrunag, were travelling back from Kurushetra. Lord Kamrunag made the decision to spend his entire life in this valley because it so seduced him. As the upright person he was, Bheem drove his elbow into the mountain, carving out the lake for Lord Kamrunag. It is believed that Rishi (Sage) Parashar meditated at the lake that bears his name.
The tourist destination offers more than just a lake. The Parashar Temple, a prime example of the varied Himachal architecture, is a must-see for anyone who appreciates architecture. The 13th-century temple was built by Raja Bank Sen in Rishi Parashar's honour.

We must travel to the place of tranquility, far from the bustle of our daily lives, to begin this alluring trek weekend.
On a Friday night in the late evening, we leave Delhi to start travelling to Baggi. We will travel by the Mandi district as our trek begins in Himachal Pradesh. This is where you stock up on your essentials, such as some quick cash or medications, and respond to critical emails because moving forward, you'll be giving up not only the urban conveniences of Dunzo and supermarkets but also your mobile network. Yes, it is unlikely that you will get a signal from this point forward, especially while travelling, so your phone's only purpose from this point forward will be to take pictures.

Our trek starts at Baggi which is only a short ride from Mandi.
The first kilometre of the trek is relatively flat, brimming with humongous boulders and progresses in a gradually ascending slope. Eventually, you’re going to enter the beauty of dense forests full of Rhododendron. Keep your eyes open to observe the different birds you could spot around the trail and for the settlements that reflect the lesser-known Himachali culture. Along the trail, you can find picturesque spots that showcase the Dhauadhar range.
The trek opens into a meadow and continues to give you a sense of different terrains. You will be able to catch sight of apple orchards. But the trek here on requires you to go the extra mile, quite literally. Not to worry though, because the clearing is worthy and rewarding. You will catch a glimpse of Manali peak, Friendship peak, Ali Ratni Tibba and so many more.
If you visit this area during the pre-summer season, you could see snow flowing down in little rivulets. Up next comes a mesmeric lake, forests, more water streams, and a few houses. And…finally, after some diligent trekking, you’ll arrive at Parashar Lake.
The lake holds a revolving island within it. It’s unlikely that you will see it moving because the movement is rather subtle and unnoticeable. The lake is usually surrounded by green pastureland, giving you shades of blue and green unlike what you would see in winters. In the winters the lake is largely frozen and the greenery around is overthrown by snow. In the monsoons, the lake reaches new levels of water due to the raise. Around the lake, you will find Pagoda Lake dedicated to sage Parashar.
Spend time with your fellow trekkers, explore the area or sit by the bonfire and admire the beauty of The Parashar. After a fulfilling dinner, pitch a tent and take a good night’s rest.
