We begin a rather early day this time in order to catch the sunrise by the summit. After driving to Chopta, we shall begin trekking toward Tunganath Temple and Chandrashila. The trek to Tunganath is approximately 3.5km in distance and 1.5km of trekking will bring us to the Chandrashila peak, the whole journey taking us about 4 hours. Interestingly, Tunganath Temple, one of the Panch (five) Kedar, is considered to be the highest temple of Lord Shiva. One the other hand, the Chandrashila peak is 4000m above the sea level gives us a panoramic view of the magnificent Uttarakhand peaks – Kedarnath, Chaukhamba, Nanda Gunti, Hathi, Ghodi, Nanda Devi amongst many others.
Initially, the trail to Tunganath is rocky but eventually changes to traditional high altitude trek terrain. Reaching the Chandrashila peak will mark the end of exploring beautiful destinations during this trek. Nonetheless, a beautiful journey doesn’t end here. We further descend to Chopta through the same route.
Enjoy a hot dinner, indulge in some talk and pose against a starry night sky. Take adequate rest and relax your muscles.
